A must-see film or not?

16/10/2022

It's Saturday afternoon, and tonight I'm going to the cinema to see the movie Novembre. Today, I will be writing my expectations and tomorrow I will write my surprises or my disappointments, what I thought of it.

First of all, this film was produced by the same producer as Bac Nord, a movie that I really liked. It blends humour, action scenes, and is inspired by a true story. This makes it all the more touching. So, I hope I will like Novembre as much or more. Sorry, Cédric Jimenez, I may be putting a little pressure on you... Then, I must admit that I'm apprehensive about the Jean Dujardin's acting. The last film I watched with this actor was Le Daim and... how tell you... I think it was the worst film I've ever watched. I don't think Novembre can disappoint me even more. Novembre is about the terrorist attacks that France experienced at the Bataclan on November 13, 2015. It's a sensitive topic, so I think's it «makes-or-breaks». Indeed, some scenes can be psychologically intolerable for victims. Based on the opinion of the Internet users, Novembre is a must-see movie... So, let's go !

We are Sunday morning, I thought that I would be cheerful to write this second part, but it does not. Unfortunately, I left the cinema, a bit disappointed. I will tell you why. First, no need to prolong the suspense any longer, I will tell you what I thought about Jean Dujardin's acting, in right away. He plays the lead role as Fred, a police officer who has to find the most wanted terrorists in France. I don't know if it's because I have seen lots of films with Jean Dujardin in funny characters that I wasn't able to dive myself into his very serious role. To compare, I would have preferred Gilles Lellouche in the film Bac Nord where I found him more touching. Maybe I would have liked to see him in place of Dujardin... In fact, I can't say that Dujardin was bad, but I found him a little sluggish... In contrast, I can safely say that Sandrine Kiberlain was unconvincing in her role. At any time, I believed in her anger or sadness. On the other hand, Novembre shows us the Anti-Terrorist Division's point of view only, and we didn't see the victim's angles at all. It's a bias that I found very interesting because it's not a point of view we see when we watch the terrorist attacks on TV, for example. It's a fresh look on these unfortunate events. The film shows us different camera's shots like infrared camera during military interventions or smartphone's camera during the suspect's espionage. That dives us into the real conditions of the different terrorist attack's moments.

So, no, Novembre isn't a must-see movie... but just a good film.
